BEn-Regional network Umbria

Fourth Network Meeting 09-11-2010

The Fourth Network Meeting was held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Perugia, IT. The increase of participants compared to the previous network meeting chracterises the increase of interest for the bioenergy sector.

After the presentation of the satisfactory progress of the project, the discussion resulted on the priority actions, whcih need to be undertaken for adavancing the development and support of the bioenergy sector. The participants of the Network Meeting signed a Letter of Interest and in joint discussion selected two projects for the implementation:

  • BiPlaN (Project for the construction of energy platorms in the region for the collection, storage and processing of solid, liquid and gaseaous state of biomass
  • The second project supports the implementation of a supply chain for the combined production of electricity and heat from vegetable oil (sunflower, rapeseed, soy etc.)

Additionally, the following activities are currently in realisation and need to be continued as next steps:

  • Dissemination of newsletter
  • Working on the design of an energy system
  • Identification of an area for bioenergy platform development
  • Contact with partner with permits concerning the installation of biomass plants
  • Presenting final version of the register and discuss ist further use

Third Network Meeting 20-04-2010

The Network Meeting of the Umbrian region met for the third time on the 20th April 2010. The 15 regional players participated in this meeting and adressed several important themes with the following two results:

  • The given progress of the project is satisfactory. Especially the development of the Umbrian part of the energy register is in an advanced state. Its results will be soon available. The graphical display of the gathered data through the GIS technology enables to view the local availability of biomass, the producers and consumers of energy.
  • The need of further actions for the development of bioenergy have to be discussed as a first priority. In particular: the development of platforms for bioenergy prduction and processing of biomass (Energy Project BiPlan-Platforms for Biomass).

Based on the results, next short term steps to take are:

  • Choosing two projects to be implemented (BiPlaN & support for the development of a vegetable oil cogeneration)
  • Signing Letter of Support
  • Promotion activities
  • Informing stakeholders about biomass availability or energy sinks

Second Network Meeting 12-10-2009

The second Network Meeting for the region Umbria was held in Perugia on the 12th October 2009. Subjects such as the following have been discussed:

  • Content of the biomass energy register (collection of data)
  • Involvement of public authority
  • Identification of financing sources for biomass development
  • dentification of regional needs and barriers to renewable energy development

In the course of the discussions between researchers, representatives of international stakeholders and of associations of farmers, two aspects can clearly be extracted:

1. the strong motivation to realize installations and infrastructure in the field of  bioenergy

2. emerging difficulties in the permissions due to the lack of clear legislations

Based on the discussion and the need for clarification of given hindrances a list of bioenergy actions and next steps has been established:

  • Continous cooperation of working groups
  • Identification of financial resources
  • Completion of the list of bioenergy actions and choosing two specific ones to WP5 implementation
  • Collection data about biomass use and availability
  • Keeping in touch with stakeholders

Date: 16-03-2009

  • Definition of the role and aims of the project, Network structure, partners specific competences;
  • Proposal to create 3 working groups:

           1. Technical financing and management support;

           2. Legislative and administrative support;

           3. Formation & information;

  • Identification of regional needs and barriers to renewable energy development;
  • Preliminary discussion about bioenergy actions in the Region;
  • Distribution and compilation of a questionnaire.

Next steps:

  • Cooperation of working groups to elaborate specific partners objectives on the base of questionnaire results;
  • Identification of financial resources;
  • Discussion to define a list of bioenergy actions;
  • Official membership of local partners to Biomass Energy Network;
  • Collecting data about biomass use and availability.
