Rural Development Initiatives Ltd (RDI) was formed as a not-for-profit company which included two woodland initiatives, Northwoods and Yorwoods, in March 2005 to take on the management of these two important partnership projects and to offer similar services to the wider rural sector.

RDI are now a full-service project management company focused on many industries that make up the UK rural economy. We have offices and home workers across the UK including North East England, Yorkshire, North East Scotland and London.

RDI staff have a proven track record in delivering projects in support of the forestry, farming and land-based industries of the UK, including business support programmes, research activities and training courses. 

The Northwoods Office exists to support tree and timber businesses of North East England. We cover the whole of the North East Region - from Berwick upon Tweed in the north to Darlington and Middlesbrough in the south.

Our main aim is to help local woodland business expand into new markets, keep up to date with training and skills and new legislation, access grants or just act as a sounding board for new ideas. Recognising the needs for further development and strengthening of the renewable energy sector we are expanding our services into the broader biomass sector. Beside project BEn we run a variety of projects covering different topics including forest and land skills, biomass support, wildfire management and others.
