The Gostynin Lake District Tourist Communes Association (Stowarzyszenie Gmin Turystycznych Pojezierza Gostynińskiego) was founded in 1996 with the aim of promoting the region for its natural, cultural, and historical attributes. The Association was set up in order to popularise and support development of various forms of tourism within the area of the Lake District, take care of the natural values of the region, and originate activities concerning environmental protection, ecological education and cultivation of cultural legacy. It has initiated numerous actions promoting development of rural areas and cooperated with organisations and institutions dealing with similar subjects in Poland and abroad.

The Association is made up of the following neighbouring cities/towns: Plock, Gostynin and Kowal, the town and commune of Gabin, and the communes of: Gostynin, Lack, Nowy Duninow, Ilow, Sanniki, Slubice, Szczawin Koscielny, Baruchowo, Kowal, Wloclawek, and the Districts of Plock and Gostynin.

As its goals, the Association presents the following initiatives:
• Improvement of life conditions within the local communities
• Development of tourism and eco-tourism
• Promotion of tourism
• Organisation of cultural, sporting, and social events
• Ecological education
• Environmental protection

In order to realize its statute tasks, the Association cooperates with institutions, units, and other associations dealing with a similar subject matter. It also maintains contacts with foreign entities with the aim of exchanging experiences and initiating joint pro-tourist and pro-ecological activities.

In November 1998 in Warsaw IBMER (Institute for Building, Mechanisation and Electrification of Agriculture) research workers together with other institutions and private persons founded the Polish Biomass Association (Polskie Towarzystwo Biomasy POLBIOM). The association was officially registered in February 1999, in April 1999 – became a member of European Biomass Association AEBIOM. POLBIOM has today 60 members, in those 8 collective ones. POLBIOM is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation the objective of which is to promote the use of biomass in non-food applications in accordance with sustainable development.
