The Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT is one of 57 Fraunhofer institutes in Germany headed by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. It represents process engineering competence in the fields of environmental, safety, process and energy technology. The institute develops tests, evaluates and optimises technical processes, it introduces new and intelligent technologies, which save resources and operate reliably, economically and environmentally friendly as well as outline new strategic processes in using the natural resources in a sustainable way.
In the BEn project the business units Resources Management, Energy Technology and Renewable Resources are involved. One common focus is the sustainable production and utilization of resources and materials, electricity, heat, cooling and fuels from agricultural/forest products and residues. Specifically in the BEn project, UMSICHT is engaged in developing the GIS architecture, the guidelines and in the work for the network establishing and master plan. UMSICHT is the leader of the BEn project and acts therefore as an interface between all work packages and also between the project team and the EACI (Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation).
